They Are Gutting a Body of Water
They Are Gutting a Body of Water (TAGABOW) is a Philadelphia-based band that blends dreamy shoegaze with electronic and experimental sounds. It started as a solo project by Douglas Dulgarian and later added Emily Lofing (bass), PJ Carroll (guitar), and Ben Opatut (drums).
Dulgarian grew up between New York and New Jersey, survived a car accident at 16, and faced heroin addiction before getting clean. He formed Jouska before moving to Philadelphia and starting TAGABOW. The band released early tapes and their first album gestures been in 2018, followed by Destiny XL in 2019 (reissued in 2021). In 2022 they signed to Smoking Room and released the split EP An Insult to the Sport and the album lucky styles. In 2025 they signed to ATO Records and released Lotto. TAGABOW has earned praise from critics for blending shoegaze with fast, breakcore and jungle influences, and for performing in unconventional ways, like playing on the floor facing the audience. Dulgarian also runs Julia's War Recordings and contributed to Jane Remover’s Census Designated in 2023.
