The Wedding Bells
The Wedding Bells is an American comedy-drama TV series that aired on Fox from March 7 to April 6, 2007. It was created by Jason Katims and David E. Kelley and stars KaDee Strickland, Teri Polo, Sarah Jones, Michael Landes, Benjamin King, Chris Williams, and Missi Pyle. The show lasted one season with seven episodes produced, but only five were aired (two were unaired). Each episode ran about 45 to 48 minutes.
Premise
The Bell sisters—Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo), and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones)—inherit The Wedding Palace, a wedding-planning business, after their parents divorce. David Conlon (Michael Landes) is the wedding palace photographer and Annie’s ex-boyfriend, adding tension. Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King) is Jane’s husband and the company’s COO. Other characters include wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams), who dreams of stardom but sings at weddings, and Amanda Pontell (Missi Pyle), a former bridezilla client who becomes a board member.
Production and reception
Fox greenlit the series after wanting a show about wedding planners. David E. Kelley largely remade a rejected ABC pilot from 2004 called DeMarco Affairs, about three sisters who inherit a wedding-planning service. The first two episodes got poor reviews and low ratings. Although the premiere was somewhat strong, ratings declined, and the show was canceled after seven episodes were produced and five aired. Critics noted the sisters’ relationships as being superficial and felt Kelley hadn’t found his writing voice for women as he had with Ally McBeal.
