Lightspeed (brokerage)
Lightspeed Trading, LLC is a privately held financial services company with an electronic trading platform. It was founded in 2006 as a spin-off of E‑Trade’s professional trader system and is based in New York City and Chicago. The CEO is Farid Naib, and its parent company is Wedbush Securities. Lightspeed’s platform lets clients trade stocks (common and preferred), futures, ETFs, options, mutual funds, and fixed income, and it also offers margin lending and cash management.
The company expanded by acquiring several firms: Integrity Trading (2008); NobleTrading (February 2010); Terra Nova Financial (October 2010); Lime Brokerage International of Ireland (June 2011); and Greenmoor Financial Group (July 2011), broadening its options trading capabilities.
In 2018, Lightspeed was sold to Wedbush Securities (via Professional Trading Solutions, which had backing from LLR Partners) and merged with Lime Brokerage, LLC, an agency broker owned by Wedbush. In 2020, Lightspeed sold the Lime low-latency execution platform to Score Priority. In 2021, Lightspeed acquired Coinigy to launch Lightspeed Crypto, a cryptocurrency portfolio management service.
