The Slicing of the Demon
The Slicing of the Demon is a Hong Kong TVB series that blends costume drama with a paranormal thriller. Set in the Ming Dynasty, it follows executioner To Sei-hoi and his god-brother Shui Yu-chan, a doctor, who stumble into the town of Cheung Lung. The town seems peaceful but hides a dark secret. The two men meet the wealthy Fok Tin-ming and his stubborn daughter Fok Sin-yiu, and by mistake they become husband and wife. Soon after, a string of murders rocks the town.
As To Sei-hoi investigates, he discovers they are caught in a trap and that someone behind the scenes is pulling the strings. Is the mastermind a god or a person? The unknown stirs fear as the truth slowly emerges.
The series stars Sunny Chan, Michael Tse, Bernice Liu, Elliot Ngok, and Angela Tong. The theme song, Waan Yung Joi Yi Ma, is performed by Bernice Liu. It has 20 episodes, about 45 minutes each, produced by TVB. It aired on TVB Jade from April 18 to May 16, 2013, and was released overseas in March 2007. It was filmed with a multi-camera setup, with Chong Wai-kin as executive producer.
