Cabasse (company)
Cabasse is a private French audio company founded in 1950 by Georges Cabasse in Plouzané, Brittany. It is best known for its high‑end home loudspeakers and also makes professional speakers for studios and theatres. Today it is part of the Veom Group.
One of France’s oldest loudspeaker makers, Cabasse has a reputation for innovation, quality, and product names inspired by the sea. In the 1980s, the company gained fame for its active professional speakers and honeycomb membranes, which delivered high power with low distortion. Models like the Galiote (compact hi‑fi) and Saturn (theatre subwoofer) showcased this approach, emphasizing high dynamics, efficiency, and realistic sound.
In 1986, Cabasse’s technology played a role in La Géode, the world’s only 12‑channel Omnimax theater. For deep bass, the system used four huge subwoofers with 22‑inch membranes.
During the 1990s, Cabasse began using coaxial drivers to reduce directivity, introducing its Spatially Coherent System. The TC21 was a notable three‑way coaxial speaker with a broad, on‑axis response.
In 2007 came La Sphère, a flagship system with two spherical coaxial speakers, a crossover, and four amplifiers. It followed Cabasse’s 2006‑era move into high‑end, four‑way designs.
The company has continuously expanded its lineup. In 2016 it launched Stream BAR, a high‑resolution home‑theater sound bar. In 2017, the Murano Alto high‑end floorstanding speaker was released and is assembled in Cabasse’s Plouzané workshops, alongside the SWELL nomadic Bluetooth speaker. The Pearl, introduced in 2018, is a high‑resolution active connected speaker with built‑in room correction and won the Diapason d’or in 2020. The Pearl Akoya followed in 2019, earning the Diapason d’or in 2021 and Stereonet’s Applause Award the same year. The Pearl Sub, released in 2020, is a 2.1 active connected subwoofer with advanced room correction and streaming, compatible with several Pearl models.
In 2021, Cabasse released GEN2 sound optimization for Pearl speakers via the StreamControl app, further enhancing performance. The brand has also kept its classic lifestyle lines—Surf, Jersey, Antigua, Murano, and Eole 4—alive. Since 2018, voice control has been available for Cabasse’s Wi‑Fi products through Cabasse Assistant (Google) and, from 2019, Amazon Alexa.
