The Shanghai Moon
The Shanghai Moon is a mystery novel by S. J. Rozan, featuring private investigators Lydia Chin and Bill Smith. It was published in 2009 in the United States by Minotaur Books and in 2010 in the United Kingdom under the title Trail of Blood by Ebury Press. The story moves between New York City and the Shanghai Ghetto. Lydia Chin is hired by her friend Joel Pillarsky to help find a legendary stolen jewel—often told as a brooch—called The Shanghai Moon. This book is part of Rozan’s long-running series about Lydia Chin and Bill Smith. In this installment, Lydia and Bill, who have been estranged since the previous book, reunite after Lydia returns from California. Joel wants Lydia to locate several antique gems, including the Shanghai Moon. After a murder occurs, Lydia is fired from the case, and Bill Smith reappears, saying he heard of the gem during his Navy days. The Shanghai Moon blends personal tension with a puzzling mystery.
