The Raveonettes are a Danish indie rock duo from Copenhagen. The group features Sune Rose Wagner (guitar and vocals) and Sharin Foo (bass and vocals). Their sound mixes close two‑part harmonies inspired by the Everly Brothers with loud, guitar-driven noise, creating a dark, cinematic take on 1950s–60s rock and noise pop. They’re also influenced by Velvet Underground.

They started in 2001 and recorded their debut Whip It On in Copenhagen. After releasing it on Crunchy Frog, the band gained early momentum at the SPOT festival in Aarhus. They were quickly noticed by major labels after Rolling Stone editor David Fricke saw them at SPOT, and they’ve been guided by manager Richard Gottehrer. Whip It On won Best Rock Album at Denmark’s Music Awards in 2003.

The Raveonettes released a string of albums that highlighted their evolving sound. Chain Gang of Love (produced by Gottehrer and Wagner) and Pretty in Black (featuring Ronnie Spector, Maureen Tucker, and Martin Rev) are standout records. By Lust Lust Lust, Sharin stopped playing bass, and Anders Christensen joined on bass. The band continued with In and Out of Control (2009), Raven in the Grave (2011), and Observator (2012). Their 2014 album Pe’ahi and the experimental 2016 Atomized project followed, with 2018’s Ghost and 2020’s Snowstorm marking later phases.

They returned to live work in 2022, performing Whip It On in full at festivals and hinting at new material. Their ninth album, The Raveonettes Sing…, arrived in 2024, featuring covers released as singles. Pe’ahi 2 came out in 2025, continuing the themes from Pe’ahi. On stage, Sune often plays Fender Jazzmasters and Sharin uses a Mustang or Jazz bass.

A notable early setback was the 2005 theft of their tour van, which carried prized gear like Sune’s 1960 Jazzmaster and Sharin’s Gretsch 6120. The band remains active, releasing new music and touring.
