The Rambler (film)
The Rambler is a 2013 American independent horror film written and directed by Calvin Reeder. It stars Dermot Mulroney as the Rambler, a mysterious loner released from a four-year prison sentence who returns home to his wife Cheryl—the moment he arrives, she reveals she is pregnant by another man. He hitchhikes to join his brother on a ranch and encounters a string of odd characters, including Dale, who forces him into bare-knuckle fights, and a scientist with two mummies who tests a device that reads dreams but causes the heads of those it touches to explode.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2013, and later screened at SXSW and the Maryland Film Festival. Lionsgate and Starz/Anchor Bay released it on DVD and Blu-ray on June 25, 2013.
Reception was mixed to negative. Rotten Tomatoes lists 33% approval based on 12 reviews, while Metacritic assigns 32 out of 100 based on 6 critics. Some critics criticized the plot and effects, but others praised its dreamlike, boundary-pushing style as a bold departure from conventional storytelling.
