2015 Christchurch Borough Council election
The 2015 Christchurch Borough Council election was held on 7 May to elect all 24 council seats. The Conservatives stayed in overall control. After the 2011 election the council had 21 Conservative seats, 2 independents, and 1 Liberal Democrat; Lib Dem Peter Hall had defected to the Conservatives in 2011.
In 2015, 69 candidates stood for 24 seats: Conservatives fielded 24, Labour 20, UKIP 16, Greens 6, and 3 independents (including Colin Bungey and Fred Neale in Jumpers). The Liberal Democrats did not stand any candidates in 2015, with their local candidate saying they wanted to focus on the general election.
Three Conservative councillors stood down: Mike Duckworth, Gillian Geary, and Myra Mawbey. The North Highcliffe and Walkford ward election was delayed to 18 June after the death of a candidate.
In May, the Conservatives won 19 of the 22 seats decided, losing one to UKIP. They held all other seats they were defending, including both Town Centre seats where Peter Hall remained a Conservative after his 2011 defection. UKIP gained Grange ward with Janet Abbott winning, and their overall vote share rose. The two independent councillors in Jumpers ward held their seats.
The June delayed election in North Highcliffe and Walkford added two more Conservative wins. Final totals were: Conservatives 21 seats, UKIP 1 seat, Independents 2 seats.
