The Forever King is a fantasy novel by Molly Cochran and Warren Murphy. It was a bestseller, reaching the top of The New York Times list, and it’s the first book in the Forever King Trilogy. The sequels are The Broken Sword: King Arthur Returns and The Third Magic. Robert Jordan called it “a fresh and exciting view of the Arthur legend.”

The story shifts between modern times and the legend of Camelot. The evil Saladin has lived through many ages by using the Holy Grail, but he loses it. The Grail ends up in the hands of ten-year-old Arthur Blessing. A broken-down ex-FBI agent named Hal Woczniak must protect Arthur and the Grail from Saladin, who will kill anyone in his way.

The book has 55 chapters split into three parts: The Boy, The Cup, and The King. A dark plan unfolds in a house not far from where Camelot may have stood. The Grail’s protectors are few: a booze-loving ex-FBI man, a courteous old gentleman who once held great power, and Arthur himself. Arthur needs a defender who is strong, pure, and faithful, and Hal is given a chance to redeem himself after past failures to save a child, and perhaps a world. He vows not to fail again.
