Tiale Vuiyasawa
Ratu Tiale Wimbledon Thomas Vuiyasawa (died March 1981) was a Fijian chief, civil servant and politician. Born into a royal family, he was the second son of Joni Madraiwiwi I and Litiana Maopa, and the uncle of future Prime Minister Kamisese Mara. He studied in Levuka and at Wesley College in Melbourne. In 1916 he joined the New Zealand Army and served in Egypt, France and Palestine before returning to Fiji in 1919 to work in the civil service; he became Native Assistant Commissioner for Lomaiviti in 1933. He held the title Roko Tui of Ra Province from 1937, and was later Roko Tui of Ba (1945) and Cakaudrove (1947). He was chosen to replace Penijamini Veli on the Legislative Council in 1938 and served 1938–1950, then 1952–1958 after a brief break. He also served on Suva City Council for a year in 1957. When Fiji gained independence, he was appointed to the Senate and served 1970–1973. He died in Suva in March 1981, aged 85.
