The Emperor's Nightingale

The Emperor's Nightingale is a 1949 Czechoslovak stop-motion animated film directed by Jiří Trnka and Miloš Makovec. It is based on Hans Christian Andersen's 1843 fairy tale The Nightingale. The story follows a live-action boy whose toys come to life in stop-motion animation and tell the tale of a Chinese emperor who befriends a nightingale. The film was released on April 15, 1949, and runs 72 minutes. It is in Czech. In the 1951 American dubbed version, the narrator is Boris Karloff. The movie won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival.
