Hanif Mohamed Lalani (born 1962) is a British business executive and Northern Ireland’s investment ambassador. He was born in Uganda and moved to the UK when he was 10. He started his career at BT Group in 1983 as a graduate trainee. In 1998 he moved to Northern Ireland to become finance director of BT Northern Ireland, and in 1999 he was named CEO of that division. After other roles, he joined BT’s board as finance director in February 2005. In 2007 he was named finance director by the Confederation of British Industry. On 31 October 2008 he became CEO of BT Global Services. He resigned in January 2010, and Jeff Kelly took over. In August 2010 he was appointed the first investment ambassador for Northern Ireland. In 2007 the Institute of Asian Professionals listed him in the Muslim Power 100 at number 30 for his work as BT’s finance director. He was awarded an OBE in December 2002, but it was removed by the Queen in September 2020 due to insider trading fraud in 2007.
