The Constructus Corporation
The Constructus Corporation was a South African electronic music group from Cape Town, active in 2002–2003. It formed after Watkin Tudor Jones (formerly Max Normal) moved to Cape Town and teamed up with DJ Dope and Felix Laband on music for a multimedia project—a graphic novel with a soundtrack and live show. Their music began with the track “Man With No Name” on African Dope’s Cape of Good Dope compilation in 2002, which gradually became The Constructus Corporation.
Their debut album, The Ziggurat (2002), is a concept album about Random Boy and his friend Kidtronic, who live on a floating space pyramid called the Ziggurat and must save it from the Constructus Corporation. The album came with a graphic novel by Nikhil Singh. It was Tudor Jones’s first collaboration with Anri du Toit, who would later be known as Yolandi Visser of Die Antwoord; at the time she used the name Anica the Snuffling.
The group dissolved after the label failed to release the album on time. Tudor Jones went on to other art and music projects, including a solo run and MaxNormal.TV with Anri du Toit. Felix Laband continued making music and later signed with Compost Records, and Markus Wormstorm, with Sibot, released the 3-CD set The Real Estate Agents.
