The Come Up
The Come Up Mixtape by J. Cole, released May 4, 2007, hosted by DJ OnPoint, is his debut project. It runs about 65 minutes and has 21 tracks. J. Cole produced 12 of the songs, including his debut single "Simba," for which he made his first music video. Other producers on the mixtape include Large Professor, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Salaam Remi, Mathematics, and Ski Beatz. The tape features Deacon and Nervous Reck, and uses samples from Kanye West, Nas, Jay-Z, Ghostface Killah, and others. All tracks are written and produced by Jermaine Cole unless noted.
The Come Up was downloaded and streamed over 500,000 times and viewed over 1.8 million times on DatPiff. On November 19, 2024, it was re-released on streaming platforms along with the first episode of Cole’s audio podcast Inevitable, which focuses on the mixtape. The streaming release omits the tracks "Throw It Up," "Mighty Crazy," "Get It," and "I Do My Thing." The label is By Any Means Management.
