Teddy Sampson

Teddy Sampson, born Nora Sampson on August 8, 1895, in New York City, was an American stage and silent film actress. She appeared in at least 41 movies between 1914 and 1923. Her father worked for a New York cab company, and he was a distant descendant of the patriot Paul Revere. Her parents, Revere and Mary Sampson, married in 1885 after Mary moved from Ireland.

Sampson began on the stage with two years in Gus Edwards’ vaudeville act “School Days,” followed by a season with Blanche Ring in “Wall Street Girls.” She later moved to film and worked with director D. W. Griffith in The Life of General Villa (1914), playing one of Villa’s sisters.

She also acted in Christie Comedies and in films starring her husband, comedian Ford Sterling. They married in 1914 and remained together until his death in 1939. Teddy Sampson died in Los Angeles on November 24, 1970, at age 75. Alexa Davalos later portrayed her in the 2003 HBO film And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself.
