UAE Public Library and Cultural Center
Abu Dhabi Public Library and Cultural Center was a complex in Abu Dhabi that included three main parts: a National Library with about 1,000,000 volumes, a performance auditorium, and a Conference/Exhibit Center. The site also featured a main entrance court with a central fountain, an amphitheater for public and children’s performances, and parking.
The center was designed by architect Hisham N. Ashkouri after winning an International Design Competition in 1976. Construction was completed in 1982, at a cost of about $56.1 million. The complex was later demolished to make way for Qasr Al Hosn, a museum and exhibition center about UAE culture. Every year the Al Hosn exhibition is held there.
Location: Cultural Foundation, Sheikh Zayed 1st Street, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
