Technological University of Panama
Technological University of Panama (Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá, UTP) is a public university in Panama City and the second largest in Panama. It has six schools and seven regional campuses, with the main campus spanning about 60 hectares.
History and status
- It started as the Engineering School of the University of Panama and became the Polytechnic Institute in 1975.
- It was established as Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá on August 13, 1981 (Law 18).
- It was officially organized on October 9, 1984 (Law 17) and later amended by Law 57 in 1996.
- Motto: On the way to excellence by means of continuous improvement.
Academic offerings
- The university offers a wide range of programs: about 2 doctorates, around 40 master’s programs, 28 bachelor’s degrees, and 21 technical careers, totaling more than 130 careers at different levels.
- It has grown from about 5,700 students in 1981 to roughly 24,700 students in 2018.
- The institution comprises a faculty of professors, with about 30% teaching full-time, and around 1,200 administrative staff.
