Tan Loke Mun
Tan Loke Mun (born 19 November 1965) is a Malaysian architect and founder/director of ArchiCentre Sdn. Bhd, DTLM Design Group, and principal of DrTanLM Architect in Subang Jaya. He is best known for designing the S11 House, Malaysia’s first Green Building Index Platinum-rated home.
Raised in Petaling Jaya, he studied architecture at Deakin University in Australia in the 1980s and earned a PhD from the University of Melbourne, focusing on social and self-help housing. He has worked in Australia, Uruguay, and Argentina.
In 1994 he started ArchiCentre. He has led and served in several professional roles, including former president of the Malaysian Institute of Architects (2005-2007), led the team that established Green Building Index Malaysia, and served on the LAM-PAM Green Building and Sustainability Committee, the GBI Accreditation Panel, and the Board of Architects Malaysia.
The S11 House is noted for being Malaysia’s first Platinum-rated GBI home. It has won multiple awards, such as the ASEAN Energy Awards (2013, Tropical Building category) and the Futurarc Green Leadership Award (2012), along with other recognitions. Although not the largest project, the S11 House is seen as a major milestone in sustainable design for Malaysia.
