Tamara Lackey is a photographer, speaker, author, and host from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She shoots lifestyle photography—from kids’ portraits to celebrity sessions—and her work has appeared around the world. Her images have been featured in Vogue, O, The Oprah Magazine, Town & Country, Parenting, Food & Wine, The Knot, and more, and on TV shows like NBC’s The Martha Stewart Show and ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. She is a Nikon USA Ambassador and has spoken at Nikon events; she also stars in a five‑part web series, Nikon Behind The Scenes, about photographing families and children, and she shoots commercial campaigns for Nikon.

In 2015 she received the WPPI/Rangefinder Humanitarian Award for charitable work and for co-founding a nonprofit for orphaned children. She won the 2014 WPPI Adorama Inspire Award. Her first professional book, The Art of Children’s Portrait Photography (2008), was well received and translated into seven languages. She and Rex Ballard produced Inside Contemporary Children’s Photography (2010), a 90‑minute video. Kubota Image Tools released The Tamara Lackey Style Book in 2010 to teach portrait photography using Kubota Actions. She co‑wrote Capturing Life Through (Better) Photography, a guide with simple tips for better everyday photos; it won the Booklist Editors’ Choice Award in Media in 2011. She has spoken at workshops worldwide, on the Google stage, as a keynote at the National Association of Professional Child Photographers Retreat, and as a WPPI judge, and she has co‑produced and hosted CreativeLive broadcasts.
