Jobes Milling Company
Jobes Milling Company was a flour mill in the St. Johns neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. It was started in 1904 by William Van Zant Jobes, who moved from Spokane to St. Johns. The mill could produce about 400 barrels of flour a day.
In 1905 a citywide fire spared the mill from damage, and Jobes ran for mayor of St. Johns but lost. Jobes died in his mill office on July 9, 1907. After his death, his sons Allan R. Jobes and William Haskell Jobes ran the business. In 1910 William Haskell died, leaving Allan as the sole owner. The brothers sued the City of St. Johns over a planned sewer in 1910, but the court allowed the project to continue.
By 1917 the mill produced about 500 barrels of flour each day. In 1918 the Rose City Flour Mill bought Jobes Milling Company and used it as a subsidiary, with plans to double production. Allan R. Jobes died in 1920. The mill building was demolished in 1930, and a lumber mill was built on the site.
