Suurbraak
Suurbraak, also known as Xairu or “Paradise,” is a small village in the Western Cape of South Africa, in the Overberg region. It was founded in 1812 when the London Missionary Society set up a mission for the Attaqua Khoikhoi people.
The village covers about 46 square kilometers and had around 2,250 residents in 2011. The community is mainly Coloured (about 93%), with small Black African, White, and Indian/Asian groups. The vast majority speak Afrikaans (about 96%), with English spoken by a few others. Suurbraak uses South Africa Standard Time (UTC+2). Postal codes are 6743 for street addresses and PO boxes, and the area code is 028. The local councillor is Heinrich Hartnick.
