Sunrise Park Resort
Sunrise Park Resort is an alpine ski area in eastern Arizona on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation near Greer. It has three mountains—Sunrise Peak, Apache Peak, and Cyclone Circle—rising from a base of 9,200 feet to a top elevation of 11,100 feet. The resort covers about 1,200 acres and offers 67 trails: roughly 46% beginner, 28% intermediate, and 25% advanced, with the longest run at 2.75 miles. There are eight lifts (including one high-speed quad) to access the slopes, with a lift capacity of 16,000 riders per hour.
Snowfall averages about 250 inches per year, and the resort uses snowmaking. Night skiing is available on limited days around Christmas and holiday weekends. The ski season typically runs from Thanksgiving through March.
In summer, Sunrise Park Resort becomes a destination for outdoor fun: downhill mountain biking, scenic chairlift rides, a zip line course, a tubing hill, a rock climbing wall, hiking, and 3D archery. There are 22 mountain bike trails, mainly on Sunrise Peak with some crossing to Apache Peak and Cyclone Circle. Access to the trails is via the Sunrise Express lift (Lift 1) or the Spirit Ridge lift (Lift 8).
The resort is about 216 miles from Phoenix, 231 miles from Tucson, 223 miles from Albuquerque, and 324 miles from El Paso. The nearest airports are in Springerville, Show Low, and Whiteriver. The climate is warm-summer Mediterranean continental. The hottest recorded day is about 86°F, and the coldest is -26°F.
Sunrise Park Resort is owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe and sits on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. It offers rentals, a ski school for all ages, and ski biking with safety certification required for first-time riders.
