Montrose (Hillsborough, North Carolina)
Montrose is a historic estate in Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina. It was once owned by Governor William Alexander Graham and Susannah Graham. The main house was built around 1900 and remodeled in 1948. It is a two-story, wood-frame home with a slate roof, flanking one-story wings, and a Colonial Revival entrance pavilion with a swan-neck pediment.
The property includes several contributing buildings: the Graham Law Office (built in 1842, remodeled about 1893) with Federal-style details; a garage (1935); a kitchen (ca. 1845); a smokehouse (c. 1830); a pump house (1948); a tractor shed (1948); an animal shelter (1948); and a barn (c. 1830–1845). The landscaped gardens date from around 1842 to 1977.
Montrose was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001 and is part of the Hillsborough Historic District. The estate covers about 61 acres.
