Sun City Live Theatre
Sun City Live Theatre was the only English-language live theatre in Singapore. It was on the fourth floor of Orchard Towers along Orchard Road. It opened on 25 May 1983, replacing Petrel Live Theatre, and was owned by Jasper Productions. The plan was for ten male mime actors, choreographed by Charles van Geun, to imitate stars like Liza Minnelli, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton and Marilyn Monroe, and to perform traditional Thai, Japanese and Korean dances. However, the main act was cancelled because authorities said it was not suitable for Singaporean audiences. After the act was cancelled, the theatre struggled to attract visitors, sometimes drawing fewer than ten people. When the mime troupe’s two-month contract ended, the theatre closed on 31 July 1983.
