Eschol Park
Eschol Park is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It sits about 60 kilometres southwest of Sydney’s central business district, in the City of Campbelltown and the Macarthur region. The postcode is 2558 and the area sits at about 87 metres above sea level.
History in simple terms
- The area was originally home to the Tharawal people.
- In the 1800s, land grants led to vineyards and farming in the district.
- A property named Eshcol Park was bought in 1858 by William Fowler, who built vineyards and a winery. He named the place Eschol Park as a tribute to his Christian faith.
- The area stayed mainly rural with dairy farming until the 1970s.
- Suburban development began in 1978 with Landcom’s Highfield Estate. The name Eschol Park stuck, even though it was spelled differently from the original name.
- In November 2024, the suburb boundary was expanded to include parts of Eagle Vale west of Eagle Vale Drive.
Landmarks and everyday life
- Eschol Park Primary School opened in 1985.
- Eschol Park Sports Complex, created in the early 1980s, has sports fields and detention basins that protect nearby areas during floods. The site sits along a branch of Eagle Creek, now the Vale Brook Reserve.
- William Fowler Reserve remembers the early wine-maker who gave the suburb its name.
- A historic gateway and the old mansion’s grounds mark the area near Raby Road; the mansion itself is now a restaurant.
