Stub Smith
Stub Smith, born James Abner Smith on November 24, 1873, was an American baseball shortstop. He played in Major League Baseball for the Boston Beaneaters in 1898. He was 5'6" tall, batted left-handed and threw right-handed. Smith made his MLB debut on September 10, 1898, and played his last game on October 15, 1898. In three major league games, he had 10 at-bats and 1 hit.
Born in Elmwood, Illinois, Smith later played in the minor leagues from 1898 to 1906 for teams including the Fall River Indians, Newark Colts, Portland Phenoms, New Orleans Pelicans, and Memphis Egyptians. He died on November 14, 1947 in Fall River, Massachusetts at age 73.
