Stavros Paravas
Stavros Paravas (April 15, 1935 – September 15, 2008) was a Greek actor from Athens. He was born in the Tourkovounia district to poor Asia Minor refugees and helped his family with odd jobs. He earned a scholarship to the drama school of Kostis Michailidis and made his first theatre appearance in 1955 in To proto psema with Katerina Andreadi's company. Early in his career he worked with Vilma Kyrou, Dinos Iliopoulos, and Kostas Hatzichristos.
During the Greek dictatorship, he was arrested for opposing the regime and was exiled to Gyaros. He later married a British woman named Anne, and they had three children: Jonathan, Martha, and Vanessa. Jonathan died suddenly later in life.
In February 2006 he faced serious health problems, including headaches and long-standing lung and heart issues. He died on September 15, 2008, from a heart attack and was buried two days later.
In the 1970s he turned to theatre reviews. His production Dirlanda was halted, which contributed to his exile. In the following decade he played several classical roles, including his first appearance at Epidaurus in Aristophanes’ Plutus.
