Alan Boswell
Alan Henry Boswell (8 August 1943 – 24 August 2017) was an English football goalkeeper. He started his career as an amateur with his hometown club Walsall in 1958 and turned professional in 1960.
He played for Walsall (1960–1963), Shrewsbury Town (1963–1968), Wolverhampton Wanderers (1968–1969), Bolton Wanderers (1969–1972), and Port Vale (1972–1974). In total, he made 435 league appearances and 479 appearances in all competitions during his 12-year career.
Boswell later managed Oswestry Town in the 1976–77 season. He was ahead of his time as a goalkeeper, warming up outside the goal, wearing gloves, and buying his own kit. After football, he ran a newsagent’s shop in Shrewsbury and later worked in the pool table industry.
He married Rosalind and had twin daughters; another daughter, Faye Turney, was among the British sailors seized by Iran in 2007. Alan Boswell passed away on 24 August 2017, aged 74.
