Statue of Thomas Anthony Dooley III
The Statue of Thomas Anthony Dooley III is a bronze sculpture by Rudolph Torrini, also known as Dr. Tom Dooley and Two Laotian Children. It is located on the University of Notre Dame campus in Indiana, near the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, and features Dooley with Lao children.
The sculpture is about 4 ft 3 in tall, 2 ft 2 in wide, and 1 ft 6 in deep, resting on a concrete base roughly 4 ft 6 in by 5 ft 1 in by 4 ft 6 in. A plaque on the base honors Thomas A. Dooley, M.D. ’48 (1927–1961) for his devotion to Our Lady’s Grotto and his service in Southeast Asia, noting it was a gift from the Notre Dame Club of St. Louis and the sculptor Rudolph E. Torrini ’59, and that it was dedicated on February 1, 1986. The sculpture was created in 1985 and later surveyed by the Smithsonian Institution’s Save Outdoor Sculpture! program in 1993.
