Hawick Sevens
Hawick Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament in Hawick, Scotland, run by Hawick RFC. It began in 1886, making it the third oldest Sevens competition after Melrose (1883) and Gala (1884). It usually takes place at the end of April and is part of the Kings of the Sevens series. The 2019 event was on 20 April and Boroughmuir won the final. For the 2019–20 season the tournament moved to August, with the date set for 10 August 2019. No tournament was held in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 2021–22 season was won by Melrose.
A separate Hawick & Wilton Sevens started in 1885, run by Hawick and Wilton RFC—a cricket club that helped form the Hawick RFC club. It is now mainly a cricket club. The Sevens was originally billed as a Sports Day.
The winner of Hawick Sevens receives the Patterson Challenge Cup. Over the years, many clubs have been invited to participate. Notable guests include Saracens (1972) and Harlequins (1980), Bristol, Crawshays RFC, Wakefield RFC, and Randwick DRUFC (1994). Among English sides that have won are Oxford University, London Scottish, London Welsh and Newcastle Falcons. In 1946, Edinburgh Academicals and Edinburgh Wanderers jointly won. If a club entered two teams, the teams were listed as A sides.
Hawick Sevens is sponsored by BSW Timber Group.
