Minister for Energy (New Zealand)
The Minister for Energy is a New Zealand government minister who oversees energy policy and regulation. The minister is responsible for two key agencies: the New Zealand Electricity Authority and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority. The current minister is Simon Watts, who has held the post since 24 January 2025. The minister is a member of the Executive Council, reports to the Prime Minister, and is appointed by the Governor-General, serving at His Majesty's pleasure. The position was created on 8 December 1972, and the first minister was Warren Freer. The salary is NZ$288,900 per year. More information is available on the government’s Beehive website.
