St Afan's Church, Llanafan Fawr

Saint Afan’s Church is in the village of Llanafan Fawr, Powys, Wales. The village is named after Saint Afan, who is said to be buried there. In the churchyard there is an old yew tree that may be older than Saint Afan.

The site likely started in early medieval times, suggested by the curved churchyard and the dedication to Saint Afan, although the current building has been rebuilt many times.

The church is a Grade II listed building. Cadw notes that it is listed mainly for its fine 18th‑century tower, while the church itself is mainly Victorian in style but still keeps its character. Cadw also mentions the church’s prominent position, its connection with Saint Afan, and ancient stones and earthworks from the 7th to 9th centuries nearby.
