Scott Hull (guitarist)
Scott Hull (born March 4, 1971) is an American grindcore guitarist and producer. He plays with Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, and Japanese Torture Comedy Hour, and has also been a member of Anal Cunt. Outside music, he works as a government computer specialist.
Hull is known for an experimental guitar style and for using eight- and seven-string guitars. Early in his career he played in the thrash-jazz trio Head in the Picklejar (HIPj), which performed at CBGBs. HIPj grew from an earlier band, Technical Misanthrope.
He has been a core member of Agoraphobic Nosebleed since 1996 and joined Pig Destroyer around 1995–1997, often layering multiple guitar tracks during live shows when there was no bass player. His guitar work drives many Pig Destroyer releases, including Phantom Limb, Terrifyer, Prowler in the Yard, Explosions in Ward 6, and the 38 Counts of Battery compilation.
Hull contributed guitar to Anal Cunt’s 1996 album 40 More Reasons to Hate Us. He is also a producer and mastering engineer, running Visceral Sound studio in Bethesda, Maryland, and has produced albums for other bands such as Sockweb.
Influences include Voivod, John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, and the Melvins.
