SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis (video game)
SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis is a 2007 action-adventure video game based on the SpongeBob SquarePants TV movie of the same name. Blitz Games made the Wii and PlayStation 2 versions, while Altron developed the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance versions. THQ published the game. The story follows SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and Plankton as they end up in Atlantis and must stop trouble there. They search for the two halves of the Atlantean Amulet, ride a singing bus to Atlantis, and explore the palace while avoiding traps. Plankton schemes to use Atlantean weapons, but is stopped, the amulet is discarded, and the group returns home.
Gameplay centers on teamwork: each character has unique abilities—SpongeBob uses his spatula, Patrick can lift and throw, Squidward runs on moving carpets, Sandy uses a lasso, Mr. Krabs is drawn to money to clear paths, and Plankton has limited moves except in two missions where he drives a tank. The game offers single-player and multiplayer modes, with the option to switch between two controlled characters; the DS version includes special two-character combos.
Five actors from the TV special reprise their roles. The game received mixed reviews, with critics citing a clunky camera, simple AI, short length, and easy difficulty. Some versions were noted for bland graphics, though opinions varied by platform.
