Songs from a Blackbird
Songs from a Blackbird is the second studio album by Norwegian singer Marion Raven, who is credited as Marion Ravn in Norway. It was first released in Norway on April 5, 2013. This was her first album in six years and her first set of all-new songs since 2005’s Here I Am. The album shows a shift from her hard rock roots to a softer folk-rock sound, which drew mixed reactions from fans. Raven collaborated with artists Thom Hell and Lisa Miskovsky on the record. The album peaked at No. 3 on the Norwegian charts, and Raven promoted it with a nationwide tour, performing the new songs as well as reworked versions of older tracks with a folk-rock feel.
A worldwide version of the album was released on iTunes on August 22, 2014. This edition adds six new tracks taken from Scandal Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. The album was released by Epic Records and Sony Music Germany, with CD and vinyl formats released on August 8, 2014 in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Internationally, Raven used the stage name Marion Raven rather than Marion Ravn. The first international single was “The Minute,” whose video was filmed in Germany in June and released on July 22, 2014. The iTunes deluxe edition includes three bonus tracks—“Start Over,” “You And I,” and “Don’t You”—released worldwide on August 5, 2014. Songs from a Blackbird was released digitally and physically in Australia on October 31, 2014. The album runs about 42 minutes and blends acoustic, pop, and folk rock sounds.
