Something Borrowed (film)
Something Borrowed is a 2011 American romantic comedy directed by Luke Greenfield, based on Emily Giffin’s novel. The film stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Rachel, Kate Hudson as Darcy, Colin Egglesfield as Dex, and John Krasinski as Ethan. It follows Rachel, a single lawyer in New York, who is close friends with Darcy, who is engaged to Dex.
At Darcy’s surprise 30th birthday party, Dex takes home the drunken Darcy but then stays away from her. Rachel helps find Darcy’s missing purse, and Dex and Rachel end up sharing a kiss. Soon they start an affair, which puts their friendships and the wedding plans in a complicated, painful light. Rachel is torn between doing what’s right and following her heart, while Dex struggles with his commitment to Darcy.
As the wedding approaches, secrets come out. Darcy admits she cheated with someone from work, and Rachel also reveals the depth of her feelings for Dex. Dex’s own family pressures him to marry Darcy, but his relationship with Rachel continues to complicate things. Near the wedding, Dex and Rachel confront what they want, and Dex calls off the engagement. However, more twists follow: Darcy is pregnant with Marcus’s child, and Rachel’s choice to stand by her friend and yet pursue her own happiness becomes clearer.
In the end, Rachel and Dex get together, while Darcy finds happiness with her pregnancy. A mid-credits scene shows Darcy surprising Ethan in London.
