Small nucleolar RNA SNORD78
Small nucleolar RNA SNORD78 (U78) is a member of the C/D-box snoRNA family found in eukaryotes. Its job is to guide the addition of a methyl group to the 2'-OH of the ribose in the large ribosomal RNA, specifically at position G4593 of the 28S rRNA. SNORD78 comes from a host gene that also produces several other C/D snoRNAs, including U44, U47, U74, U75, U76, U77, U79, U80, and U81. The predicted secondary structure and the sequence of SNORD78 are conserved across species, indicating an important function.
