Langdon Academy
Langdon Academy is a mixed school for children aged 3 to 16, located on Sussex Road in East Ham, London. It has academy status and is part of the Brampton Manor Academy Trust. The school has about 2,078 pupils and the address is East Ham, E6 2PS, near the A124 and the A406, with the River Roding behind the site.
Langdon's history goes back to 1905, when East Ham Grammar School for Boys opened. In 1972, several local schools merged to form a large mixed comprehensive on the Langdon site. Langdon became a Sports College in 1998. It converted to an academy in 2014 and was renamed Langdon Academy, joining the Brampton Manor Academy Trust. The current principal is Jamie Brooks; previous principals include Chris Mallaband and Peter Whittle.
A major building project costing about £26 million was completed for the 2013/14 year.
Notable events include a visit by Tony Blair in 2005, pupil participation in youth debates during the G8 summit, and a meeting with Nelson Mandela at a rally in London.
