Sin Chung-kai

Sin Chung-kai, born 15 June 1960 in Hong Kong, is a former Hong Kong politician and long-time public servant. He studied at the University of Hong Kong (BSc) and earned an MBA from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He worked as an IT manager at HSBC until 2011.

Political career
- Local government: Began in 1985 on the Kwai Tsing District Board, where he served as chair from 1994 to 1999 and remained a board member for many years.
- Legislative Council (LegCo):
- 1995–1997: Elected to the New Territories South seat for Information Technology.
- 1998–2008: Represented the Information Technology functional constituency and was re-elected in 2000 and 2004.
- 2012–2016: Elected to LegCo from the Hong Kong Island constituency.
- Party roles: A member of the Democratic Party since 1994, he served as vice-chairman until December 2012 and later was an Executive Committee member. He ran for party leadership in 2012 but narrowly lost to Emily Lau.
- District Council: Served as chairman and member of the Kwai Tsing District Council (Wah Lai) and became chair again in January 2020.

Honors and public service
- Awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2007 for his contributions to public affairs.
- Advocated for human rights, economic development, and the free flow of information, and promoted IT and telecommunications growth in Hong Kong.

Legal and later developments
- On 18 April 2020, he was arrested among 15 pro-democracy figures over an unauthorized assembly during the 2019 protests.
- On 10 June 2022, his Silver Bauhinia Star honor and his Justice of the Peace appointment were revoked because of related jail sentences.

Personal life
- Married to Yvonne Sin Chan Ying-yee since 1986, and they have two sons.
