Silistra Municipality
Silistra Municipality is a region in Silistra Province in Northeastern Bulgaria. It sits on the right bank of the Danube River, in the Danubian Plain, and borders Romania across the river. The administrative center and province capital is the city of Silistra.
The municipality covers about 516 square kilometers. As of December 2009, around 54,900 people lived there, giving a population density of about 106 people per square kilometer.
The area is known for the Srebarna Nature Reserve near Srebarna Lake. Major roads I-7, II-21, and II-71 pass through the municipality, connecting Silistra with Shumen, Ruse, and Dobrich.
Silistra Municipality includes 19 settlements, with the town of Silistra as the main center. Since 1992, it has included the area of the former Municipality of Profesor Ishirkovo.
Ethnic Bulgarians are the largest group, Turks form a large minority, and there is a small Roma community.
