Shy Glizzy, born Marquis Amonte King on December 12, 1992, is an American rapper from Southeast Washington, D.C. He is also known as $hy Glizzy. He is best known for his guest verse on GoldLink’s 2016 single “Crew” with Brent Faiyaz, which reached number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance.

Growing up in DC, he got the nickname “Shy” as a child. He began writing rap as a teen after reading the Quran, newspapers, and biographies, and was influenced more by go-go music than rap, which helped shape his sound.

Shy Glizzy released a series of mixtas starting in 2011, including No Brain, Streets Hottest Youngin, and Law. He teamed with Jose Guapo for Fly Money (2012) and released Fxck Rap later that year. His 2014 mixtape Young Jefe featured the hit “Awwsome,” which led to a remix with A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz. He was named part of XXL’s Freshman Class in 2015.

In 2018, he released his debut studio album, Fully Loaded, with guests like YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Gunna, and Rick Ross. The album peaked at number 35 on the Billboard 200. He later released Covered n’ Blood (2019), which reached number 156 on the Billboard 200, and a mixtape Aloha later that year.

In 2020, Shy Glizzy dropped the singles “Lonely Vibes” and “Right Or Wrong” with Lil Uzi Vert, and released Young Jefe 3. He runs Glizzy Gang, a label under 300 Entertainment, and has signed No Savage. Shy Glizzy identifies as Muslim.
