2026 Kansas Elections for Supreme Court Justices Amendment
2026 Kansas Elections for Supreme Court Justices Amendment
On August 4, 2026, Kansas voters will decide a legislatively referred constitutional amendment about how Supreme Court justices are chosen. Currently, Kansas justices are appointed by the Governor with recommendations from the Kansas Supreme Court Nominating Commission. The amendment would create partisan elections and six-year terms for justices, to be decided statewide. Critics say it could affect the impartiality of the court. The measure was passed by the Legislature with Republican support.
