Shmuel Moreh (Hebrew: שמואל מורה) was an Iraqi-born scholar who specialized in Arabic language and literature. Born December 22, 1932, in Baghdad, he became a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He received the Israel Prize in Middle Eastern studies in 1999. Moreh wrote many books and articles on Arabic literature, with a focus on Iraqi Jewish Arabic literature, and he contributed to Elaph, one of the first independent Arabic online newspapers. He wrote in Arabic, Hebrew, and English. Moreh passed away on September 22, 2017, at age 84.
