Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts
The Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts, known in French as Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, is an art museum in downtown Sherbrooke, Quebec. It sits at 241 Dufferin Street. The building is the former Eastern Townships Bank, built in 1876, and the museum moved there in 1996 after a major renovation. The museum opened in 1982 and was accredited in 1990. It receives funding from the City of Sherbrooke, the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications, and its members.
The museum houses about 4,600 works across three rooms, one on each floor. The third-floor permanent gallery is called "Spaces and Landscapes" and features the works of Frederick Simpson Coburn plus a contemporary art collection donated by Luc LaRochelle. The other two rooms show about ten temporary exhibitions each year. The collection includes works by local Eastern Townships artists, pieces inspired by the region, and Indigenous art from Canada and beyond. The current director is Cécile Gélinas, and the curator is Sarah Boucher.
