Shaker Run
Shaker Run is a 1985 action movie from New Zealand directed by Bruce Morrison. The story follows Pierson, a fearless stunt driver, and his mechanic friend Lee as they flee the New Zealand secret police with Doctor Rubin. Rubin has stolen a virus from a government lab and plans to deliver it to the CIA. They speed away in a pink and black Trans Am named “Shaker,” trying to outrun the authorities across the South Island.
The film stars Cliff Robertson, Leif Garrett and Lisa Harrow, with a supporting cast that includes Shane Briant, Peter Rowell, Peter Hayden, Ian Mune and Bruce Phillips. It was filmed in part at Larnach Castle and is part of New Zealand’s growing film scene in the 1980s, helped by tax breaks for production.
Shaker Run is best remembered for its car stunts, which many describe as some of the best ever done in a New Zealand movie. The plot is simple and action-driven, with the dramatic New Zealand scenery providing the backdrop for the high-speed chase. The film runs for 90 minutes and is in English.
