Sendal, also spelled cendal or sandal, is a thin, lightweight silk fabric used mainly for ceremonial clothing, church vestments, and banners. The name comes from the Greek sindōn meaning "fine linen"; the old French form is cendal. It is often woven with a linen warp and a silk weft.
