Selçuk Alagöz
Selçuk Alagöz (5 August 1944 – 5 August 2025) was a Turkish singer and songwriter. After finishing the German High School in Istanbul, he studied economics at Istanbul University and earned a master’s degree in tourism management. In 1964, he competed in the Golden Microphone contest organized by Hürriyet newspaper. He led the Alagöz orchestra with his sister Rana Alagöz, who was the soloist. The Alagöz brothers entered the Golden Microphone again in 1967 with an orchestra that included Cahit Berkay and Engin Yörükoğlu. In 1970, with Rana and Ali Alagöz, he represented Turkey at the 3rd Appollonia International Music Festival in Athens. His notable songs include Naftas of the Belt, Castle Indir Beni, Bahçee Came Bahar, Edremit Van'a Bakar, Malabadi Bridge and I Am Crazy, I Love. From 1979, he organized tour shows with Rana, Ali and later Nilüfer Alagöz, who joined the band. He received the Golden Butterfly Award in 2010. Alagöz died on 5 August 2025, his 81st birthday; his daughter announced the death on social media. He was buried at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery in Istanbul.
