Second cabinet of P. W. Botha (1984–1989)

The second cabinet of Pieter Willem Botha was the 7th cabinet of South Africa under the 1961 constitution. It began on 3 September 1984 when Botha became State President and lasted until September 1989, ending after his health problems. The cabinet had 19 ministers, all from the National Party, with a strong majority in Parliament. The main opposition was the Conservative Party, led by Andries Treurnicht. It followed the 1987 election.

In January 1989, Botha suffered a stroke and became unable to govern. He resigned in February, and Chris Heunis served as acting State President for the remaining months. Frederik de Klerk became leader of the National Party on 2 February 1989 and was inaugurated as State President on 20 September 1989, marking the end of the second Botha cabinet. Preceded by the First Botha cabinet and succeeded by the De Klerk cabinet.
