Sean Egan is a software engineer at Google. He has worked on Google Talk and now works on Google Maps. He used to lead Pidgin, a popular open-source instant messaging program, from 2002 to 2008, and he started contributing to Pidgin in 2000. He wrote a book called Open Source Messaging Application Development: Building and Extending Gaim.

He was born on April 5, 1982, on Long Island, New York. He attended Chaminade High School in Mineola and earned a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Binghamton University. Since 2000, he has been a major contributor to open-source real-time communication software.

Egan joined Google in September 2005 as a software engineer on the Google Talk team. He led the libjingle project, working to ensure voice features work well across XMPP-based instant messaging clients.
